Educated at Clifton
College, England, and Dordogne College, France, before
returning to England for film school, David Hofberg is the
grandson of noted scientist Emlyn Davies and the
great-grandson of Government Minister, Vernon Hartshorn.
Conceived in Canada, born in
London, raised in Sweden, Wales, England and France,
David has yet to grow up but has spent most of his adult
life in New York. Now single (David enjoys cooking,
moonlit walks and the works of Avril Lavigne) and living
a nomadic life between England and Morocco and the roads
that lie between, he nevertheless does his flawed best
to help raise three children.
David has directed music videos,
documentaries and theatre, written plays (including
"The
Man From Verona") and screenplays (including "Return To
Thunder Ridge", occasionally cited as the best unproduced script in Hollywood), written and performed
(with Stacey Haber Hofberg and The Cars' Greg Hawkes) the children's song "Seńorita Petita, Mr. Woo &
His Book Full Of Wonders", worked in North America,
Europe, Africa and Asia, and continues to develop his
semi-legendary project, "Cruel And Unusual: The Legend
Of Boötes Ghuwę".
As a producer, David recently
completed principal photography on the feature film
"Une
Gazelle Dans Le Vent" by Oscar-winning director Mohamed Hassini. Shot in Casablanca and Tangier in 2005, it is
presently in post-production in Casablanca and Paris and
will be released in 2007.
As a writer/director, David is in
pre-production on the autobiographical
"Hurt Me".
"Hurt Me" will mark
David's feature film debut as a director and will
reunite him with a number of
"Une Gazelle Dans Le
Vent"'s award-winning crew members.
As a writer/producer, he is at
work on "Desert Song", a sweeping historical epic
focusing on the Berber people of North Africa.
Co-written by Wafae El Hakimi, it is to be directed by
award-winning cinematographer Ricardo Coll.
(David is pictured above scouting locations in Essaouira,
Morocco, also used as a location for Ridley Scott's "Kingdom Of
Heaven".)
In 2008, he will produce the film
version of "The Man From Verona" with ex-wife Stacey
Haber Hofberg directing. This will be a switch in roles
as David directed the original Off-Broadway play
while Stacey produced it!
The Asymmetric Group is a
privately-held company encompassing
all of David's creative endeavours, from graphic design
to fashion to writing and film-making.
